NAME Awards 2015

National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME)'s the 25th Anniversary National Conference took place at Sheraton Hotel, New Orleans. It's member, Soh Young Lee-Segredo was honored with Equity, Social Justice Advocacy Award on Sat, October 3, 2015 at the President Gala. There is NAME International Chapter in S. Korea. Next year's National Conference is in Cleveland, Ohio. Soh Young Lee-Segredo is a public school teacher, singer, multicultural performer, community activist and mentor.  She is NAACP Life time members. In 2012 she founded Multicultural Council of NY, Inc (MCCNY). and she writes creative community grants so she can assist local community with art and education. MCCNY is recipient of NYS Arts Grant for 2014 and 2015.
Soh Young Lee-Segredo is currently a bilingual teacher in Hempstead Schools System at Front Sreet School. She was recognized for her endless effort and energy to teach and connect school, home and community. As a bilingual teacher she advocates and exposes her students and their families to diversity. She brings diverse guests with different professional background to her classrooms so students can meet different people and interview them. "I have new comers to USA and they need to be exposed to everything and different professionals who can be role models, "Says Soh Young Lee-Segredo.
She founded Multicultural Council of NY, Inc. As a founding member of Multicultural Council of NY, Inc. she writes grant proposal, advocate youth, women and adults.  She is an adviser for Korean American Association of Queens (KAAQ), North Shore Health System Feinstein Research Center Community Advisory Board member, NAACP Life Time member. She connects Korean Community as  well as other ethnic communities with songs, storytelling and multicultural performances. For many years she tries to bring harmony and understanding of diverse communities.
In her speech, she thanked all her teachers from S. Korea, Paraguay, Brazil, Spain.  She dedicated her award to all the classroom teachers who give daily a lot to their students and parents. "Classroom teachers are sometimes mothers, fathers, social worker, sisters, psychologist. It is awesome responsibility to be a classroom teacher," she added.
